Finally Engaged!!

Monday, January 5, 2009

Where to begin?! I'll start by letting you know we got Dave's proposal on video, but we're having trouble getting it posted. So, it's coming.

Dave proposed on Christmas Eve. We were in Cali having Christmas with his family. I started opening the present that I thought was from his sister in law (she drew my name for the sibling present exchange) and people started pulling out their cameras. I still wasn't really suspicious because I didn't even think the box was from Dave. It was the box to a puzzle I had just done with Dave's nephews so I know it wasn't really a puzzle. inside that box was a black velvet box. Dave said I gave him a look that said, "Is this what I think it is? Because if it's not, I'll kill you." But it was. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He had asked my dad earlier in the week without me knowing.

This is the ring he proposed with. he chose it himself but it's exactly what I wanted! There are 2 other bands being made: each just pave diamonds- one to go on top of this ring and one for underneath it. So pretty!

So, that's all it took and I got the ball rolling! Our announcements are done (because Dave's sister Jenny is WONDERFUL!!), the temple is booked (SLC on Feb 14th at 11:40), the reception place is booked (The Alpine Art Center from 6:30-8:30), I have my dress, my cake, my flowers, etc.

I am so excited that it's finally going to happen! We're looking for an apt in the SL area that Dave can move into right away.

I'll post the video when I can.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEREK!

He would have turned 23 yesterday. My mom took a beautiful little cake to his family, and I know the rest of us were thinking of him. My heart is still broken over this...

More Baby Pics... And Puppy Pics!

Monday, December 15, 2008

Dave and I stopped by to see baby Sammy on Saturday before heading up to Logan for the rest of the weekend. Sammy was so adorable! And the other kids were as cute as always. I love playing with those kids!

In Logan we stayed with Dave's cousin Eric and his wife Isabel. Their dog is Boozer's mom and she had another litter (a month ago today). Dave and I are taking one of the female puppies. She is so cute and so sweet. Dave keeps saying he's not sure yet if he wants to keep her, but this pic says otherwise!

When God Closes a Door, He Opens a Window

As a family, we have been mourning a terrible loss of life, but now are so blessed to find joy in a glorious new life! My older sister Ashley had her 4th child, her 3rd little boy, yesterday. Samuel Howard King was born at 4:31pm on December 8th at the American Fork Hospital. He is such an angel! I was present at his birth along with my parents and my Vovo-- Samuel's great grandma. This was the first time in her 90 that my Vovo (Portuguese for Grandma) was able to be present at the birth of a child. It was such a beautiful time to comprehend the miracle of birth! And the miracle of man's opportunity and capability to create life. I have a few pics that I took with my blackberry, but there are more on Ashley's blog (one of the ones listed in the right column of my blog). How fun to think that Samuel got to spend a little bit of time with Derek before he came to us!

Just being cleaned up. Born only seconds earlier!

This is my favorite pic. So precious!

6 pounds, 11.5 ounces. 19 inches long

I love baby squish face!

Beautiful!

Welcome little Samuel! We love you!!

In Loving Memory...

The world lost a great person last Monday. My brothers' friend Derek Lowry passed away from an unexpected heart attack. He was 22 and healthy as could be. It just shows that there doesn't have to be a reason for death, except God's reasons-- which we often can't understand.

Derek was like a brother to me. He was a sweet, silly kid. We feel a void without him.

He was one of the Groom's men at Nick's wedding

His family told some great stories about him at the funeral. One of my faves was when Derek had been taunting his little brother Jordan. Jordan got fed up and left the bedroom they were sharing. He got some duct tape and started wrapping tape abound the door nob. With duct tape, he attached that door nob to a door nob across the hall so that Derek couldn't get out. Derek, being creative and resourceful, decided to climb out the window and down the side of the house using a rope made of bed sheets. Well, he didn't think ahead far enough because the sheet-rope ended about half way down the second story of the house. Jordan heard him calling for help and watched a neighbor bring over a ladder to let Derek down. Too funny.

Also, just a few weeks ago, Derek found an injured chipmunk at Wendy's restaurant in Highland. He caught it, took it home in a Wendy's bag, gave it a bath, bought it a cage, and named it Doug. He loved animals and loved naming them crazy normal names-- like his cat Steve.

I think the best story of all was this one: Just a week or two ago Derek was on a date. They were watching a movie in the basement and he was trying to work up the courage to kiss her. He was really nervous and started breathing heavy. His heart was racing. He tried to calm down and turned to kiss her...and...HE PASSED OUT!!! He fell into her lap and when he came to was very confused as to what was going on. And so was she! He tried to cover for his new "Most Embarrassing Moment" by saying, "Sorry, I was just readjusting to try and get comfortable." Tell me you wouldn't have laughed your guts out! Funeral or not!!

One of a kind! We love you Derek!!!

GERMANY, Munich/Austria Mission!!!!

Friday, November 14, 2008

The people in this mission better hold onto their hats, because my little bro Mike (who's not-so-little anymore!) is coming their way!!! Congrats Mike! He enters the MTC on Feb 25th, just a couple of weeks after his birthday. I'm sitting here at my desk CRYING (unexpectedly...) thinking of how proud I am of him! And how excited I am for him! And how much I'll miss him!

Any of you who know Mike, or even have met him, know there will definitely be a hole in all of our lives when he is gone. He has a special way of warming your heart and cracking you up. He has an awesome sense of humor along with an incredible testimony and desire to serve. He's been going to mission prep classes on Sunday afternoons for YEARS! He started going right after I left on my mission!

Mike and I share some special little loves:

  1. We love to watch the new 90210 together. Yep, it's true.
  2. He pretends to hate when I watch Law & Order but I know his heart skips a beat just like mine when we hear the "ching-ching!"
  3. Andy Samburg and the SNL digital shorts ("Mmm, whatcha say....")
  4. Harry-freaking-Potter!!!
  5. Midnight trips to Beto's (this deserves a shout-out to Nick. He started the tradition)
  6. Rad concerts: Def Leppard, Journey, Styx...just to name a few!
  7. Relationship chats, often via text message
  8. Making up Facebook groups: Hillary Has Cankles, LaVell Edwards Fan Club, Austin Collie for Heisman.
The list goes on and on. I'm sure I'll keep adding to the list over time.

More awesome things about Mike:
  1. Once I was having a hard time with my primary class. they were out of control. Mike was walking past the classroom so I had him come in for a minute and asked him to help me calm them down. He proceeded to tell my class he was in the Army and if they misbehaved they'd have to go into the army too. They quieted right up. haha.
  2. He learned Greensleeves on the Viola because it's my favorite song
  3. Lacrosse State champs '07-'08
  4. When he gets excited he rubs his hands together really fast and shudders a little bit. it's adorable!
  5. When I came home from my mission he had a MULLET!! Just to freak me out!
  6. Mike was SO patient teaching me how to snowboard. I'm so athletically retarded! I was sure he'd get frustrated and ditch me, but he never left my side.
  7. He used to call me his "Sugar Mama" for taking him out for sushi and getting him decked out in new school clothes.

The Best Men at Nick's wedding. What a babe!

Havasupai-- Dare Devil!

Hubba hubba! So ripped!

Super Mikey!!

Laundry and scriptures on Heritage Tours (He read the ENTIRE Book of Mormon in 3 weeks!!)

I love you so much Mike. I'm so grateful that we were able to become so close over these last few years! I will think of you and miss you everyday. A mission's not easy but that's what makes it so awesome! What I wouldn't give to have one more day as a missionary! For a long time you'll feel like your mission will never end, but CHERISH that!!! Because it does inevitably end. Your life will be forever changed and blessed for serving the Lord. When times are hard don't turn inward, turn to UPWARD! the Lord will carry you through the hard times more literally than I can tell you. I am thrilled for the experiences you will have and the friends you will make.

THE GERMAN/AUSTRIAN PEOPLE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE YOU!!!!!
I love you Mikey.

What Sports Car Are You?

Friday, October 3, 2008

I'm a Ferrari 360 Modena!

You've got it all. Power, passion, precision, and style. You're sensuous, exotic, and temperamental. Sure, you're expensive and high-maintenance, but you're worth it.
